Samoëns and it's neighbouring village, Morillon, are part of the Grand Massif
area of the French Alps, just 55 minutes drive from Geneva, making it one of the most accessible such areas in
the Alps. It is very beautiful in summer and every day you can do a different activity, or you can simply relax
and enjoy the beautiful views. The village of Samoens is the only winter or summer resort in France to be a 'Monument
Historique' - a listed village - due to the beauty of the village, it's connections with master stone-masons and
the quality of maintenance since the Middle Ages. It is also designated a 'ville fleurie' - simply one of the most
beautiful villages in France! Alongside the ancient attractions, there are superb modern facilities in the village,
with great swimming pools for adults and kids, adventure parks, over 400km of mountain bike trails, 450km marked
trails for great hikes and more. Many chairlifts are open in the summer to take you up - you can even take your
mountain bike, so all you have to do is ride down. Morillon also has a bathing lake with 'beach', grassed picnic areas, a cafe for
drinks and snacks and playgrounds. It's possible to walk or cycle along the side of the Giffre river, on prepared
paths, to meet the Samoens swimming pool and play areas. SUMMER ACTIVITIES, THINGS TO SEE AND DO... Cascade de Rouget - a spectacular waterfall in Sixt, just 6km away and an easy drive There are plenty of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants in and around the village
including a Champion supermarket. GREAT DAYS OUT... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FAMILY HOLIDAYS IN SAMOENS…
We have enjoyed many family holidays in this area of the Alps, both summer
and winter, and can highly recommend it - families, couples or groups of friends, you will be sure to find exhilaration
and relaxation in this wonderful location.
Here of some of the summer activities you can experience in the Grand Massif:-
Weekly wine-tasting with a local expert
Beautiful local chapels to visit on a guided tour - many from 17th Century
Market day is Wednesday - local crafts, fresh produce, ceramics etc
Botanical gardens with the ruins of a 12th Century castle
At the heart of the village is the Gros Tilleul - a large lime tree dating back to 1438, and now a popular meeting
place
Within easy reach of Samoens and Morillon are many places for a great day
out - Annecy with it's stunning mediaeval buildings, and surrounded by lake and mountains; Geneva for cosmopolitan
shopping or a walk alongside the iconic lake with its huge fountains; Yvoire, a beautiful village on the shores
of Lake Geneva; Les Gets and Morzine, pretty, flower-decked villages with stunning mountain scenery and a choice
of shops, bars and cafes. Morzine also has a huge swimming pool complex. St Gervais Les Bains is a lovely town
with an excellent spa centre, as well as an outlet store for one of the major ski and mountain wear manufacturers.
It also has stunning views of the Mont Blanc chain. Chamonix Mont Blanc is also close by - even on a warm summer
day, you can easily see the ancient glacier with the naked eye, either from the town, or take the Aguille du Midi
cable up the mountain for incomparable views of Europe's highest mountain. None of these places are more than an
hour's drive from Samoens - some are just 15 minutes.
